Phil Darko

Middle Child Records Artist

Bio

Hip Hop gave Phil Darko what most couldn’t – a space to vent. A space to let one’s imagination, fantasy, reality, and emotions run free. Phil Darko’s music is an attempt to bring the vivid images and concepts from his soul to the pen and pad; and from his mouth to the ears of the listeners.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, raised in Rexdale, and now living in Brampton, Phil Darko quickly fell in love with metaphorical rap filled with aggression and confidence. Rappers like Jay-Z, Kanye West, 50 Cent and Cassidy made Phil want to pick up the mic. At age 12, all he had was a walkman and a mixtape with about 10 rap songs that he memorized while mouthing the words to and from school. At age 16, Phil and his friends would freestyle for hours on a daily basis in the school music studio, until one day the gospel was preached to him through rap.

Now exposed to Christian Hip-Hop, Phil Darko heard the good news that Jesus died for his sins in a language he understood – rap. Phil then decided to write from a gospel centered worldview which has brought him much joy. Phil believes that before Christ, people accept you because you make music about the problems in the world without any real solution to it. From a gospel centered worldview, you get people who love you or hate you because of what you say – those who’ll hail you or nail you. Phil Darko’s music takes on many forms and shapes and he is not afraid to rap to any style of music. From straight gutter rap, EDM, pop music, rock, metal, to contemporary music,

Phil Darko in the booth is like a boxer in the ring. He throws creative punchlines and hooks with the very intent to knock the listener in a stupor to absorb the song in its totality.
